Creative Blocks – Montenegrin Cultural Heritage, Now in Digital Form

Montenegro now has a mobile and web application that promotes its nature, culture, and key social values in a creative and educational way. The bilingual app Creative Blocks (Kreativne kockice) is a natural extension of the successful printed memory games that have, for years, delighted children and adults across the country – now also available as a free digital platform for iOS, Android, and web.

From Print to Screen – 13 Editions, 2,500 Copies, and Countless Smiles

The first memory games were developed in 2020 by studio ribizla. – Butterflies, Birds, and Mammals of Montenegro. Soon after, CS Cassiopeia joined the initiative, and to date, 13 printed editions have been published, with a total print run of over 2,700 copies – including two special editions. The games have been used in schools, institutions, tourist centres, and family settings, highlighting the values of education, ecology, and culture without relying on screens.

The partnership between studio ribizla. and CS Cassiopeia led to a shared mission: to bring knowledge and tradition closer to all generations through formats that combine learning and play. This is how Creative Blocks was born – a bilingual app that reveals Montenegro card by card, in a simple and accessible way.

An App That Educates and Inspires

The games currently available in the app include:

• Miraculous Montenegro (1, 2, 3) – exploring biodiversity and natural wonders

• Women of Montenegro (1, 2, 3) – dedicated to important women from history and contemporary society, based on the monograph “Women of Montenegro” by Olivera and Tijana Todorović

Upcoming editions include Podgorica, From the Garden, and a special international edition, Poland–Montenegro.

The games are designed to be fun, to help players develop memory and focus, and at the same time, to teach them about Montenegrin heritage. Each matching card reveals a short educational text, offering insights into the species, landscapes, and individuals that shape the Montenegrin identity.gorskom nasljeđu. Creative Blocks was created out of a desire to preserve and promote Montenegro’s cultural identity through an innovative approach. Through thoughtfully designed memory games, this project contributes to educating younger generations, helping them discover the country’s nature, history, and social values through play. A special emphasis is placed on promoting gender equality – with editions dedicated to the women of Montenegro who have left a lasting mark across various sectors of society.

By digitising the content and making it available on mobile platforms, the project not only preserves and presents Montenegro’s rich cultural heritage, but also makes it accessible to a wider – including international – audience.

The app is suitable for all ages and is intended for use in schools, as a family activity, in cultural institutions, and as a valuable tool for tourists and everyone interested in connecting with Montenegrin identity – in both Montenegrin and English.
